Flying

This will be the home of my flying adventures, once I start up again, this summer.

Background:  I am (as you can tell by the website name) a pilot.  I fly for fun, mostly.  When I was young I was fascinated by all things mechanical and Airplanes especially.  During highschool I spent more time at the airport that anything else (living only a few blocks away helped, too!).  I saved my money and by the time my 16th birthday arrived, I had enough training that I could "solo" on that day.  Over the next year I was able to complete the training I needed to go for my checkride to get my license on my 17th birthday (FAA minimum ages).   I flew off and on for several years hoping to make a career of it.  Well, that was never to be and quite honestly after my father's death in '95 in a light plane accident, I didn't do much more flying.  Over the last 15 years I flew a little off and on, but never enough to be truly 'current' by my own standards.  This will change this summer.  I have promised myself!

Fast forward to today: I am now in a position, financially and otherwise, where I can once again pursue my lost love of flying.  I live on this lovely piece of property that affords me the ability to have a 800-1000' airstrip right in my own front yard.  SO --  you can only guess what this means:  Yup!  I'm gonna' get a little plane of my own, again.  With the support of Mrs. Av8r and the assistance of a new friend (Mrs. Av8r's boss, actually) I hope to locate and purchase a small experimental plane of a specific design that will fit my needs perfectly (I think).

However; a few things need to happen first:

  1. I need to renew my Medical certificate.  DONE, 4-2009!
  2. I need to get 'current' again with a flight instructor.  DONE, 7-3-2009!
  3. I need a "Tailwheel Endorsement" to fly the type of plane I want to get.  DONE, 7-3-2009!
  4. I need to find and buy the plane that I am looking for.  DONE, More details here!
